Martha C. Pratt

Martha C. Pratt, 95, of Saint Cloud, Florida passed away Monday, February 4th, 2013. Martha was born at her grandmother Sylvester's house on January 13, 1918, in Coaticook, Quebec, Canada. The house still stands today. Martha graduated from Canaan Memorial High School in 1935. Martha Haynes and Carl Crawford were married on October 28, 1937. They raised their family on the family farm in the small town of Beecher Falls, VT on the Canadian border. While Carl worked on the Maine Central Railroad, Martha managed the home front for her 9 sons and husband; mothering, cooking, sewing, gardening, berrying and keeping the old farmhouse warm with wood fires. She was a member of the Grace United Methodist Church in Canaan, Vermont and taught Sunday School for many years. The annual Sugar on Snow Social was never complete unless Martha made her doughnuts. As years passed Martha and Carl began visiting Carl's mother in St. Cloud, Florida and eventually became "snowbirds". After Carl passed in 1986, Martha married T. Chapin Pratt in 1987. They enjoyed many happy years together blending family and friends until Chapin passed in 2004. Martha enjoyed many good times with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Her Christian faith was her foundation. She cherished the many good friends she made over the years in St. Cloud and the First Baptist Church Life Groups. She was a mom to many, grammy to others and "special" grammy to a select few. We all will miss her dearly. She is survived by her sons: Stanley Crawford of St. Cloud, Florida; Carol Crawford of Cocoa, Florida; Rodney (Dot) Crawford of Webster, Massachusetts; Vernon (Bonnie) Crawford of Canaan, Vermont; Donald (Anne Marie) Crawford of St. Cloud, Florida & South Burlington, Vermont; Harland (Odette) Crawford of Canaan, Vermont; and Calvin Crawford of Lancaster, New Hampshire; daughter-in-law, June Crawford of Westfield, Wisconsin; step-son, Chapin (Beverly) Pratt of The Villages, Florida; step-daughters, Betty Brown of Joanna, South Carolina, and Ginny (Dennis) Merrill of Ridgeway, Colorado; step-daughter-in-law, Vivian Pratt of Gaysville, Vermont; sister-in-law, Leatrice Bacon of St. Cloud, Florida. Martha was predeceased by her husbands, Carl Crawford and T. Chapin Pratt; sons, Larry Crawford and Robert Crawford; step-son, Wayne Pratt; brother, Murray Haynes and brother-in-law, Rodney Bacon. Sevices will be held on Sunday, February 10th at the First Baptist Church of St. Cloud at 4:00 P.M. The family will receive friends on Sunday, February 10th from 2:00-4:00 P.M with Pastor Craig Adams officiating. In lieu of Flowers, donations can be made to the St. Cloud Food Pantry.
