Marjorie Carole Bright

BRIGHT - Marjorie Carole Bass Bright departed this earthly life on Sunday, July 2, 2023 in St. Cloud, Osceola, Florida. She was born May 3, 1938 in Gainesville, Alachua, Florida the youngest child of Son Lesley and Sally (Durham) Bass. She is survived by her son, Thomas Leslie Bright (Mary) of St. Cloud, FL; daughter-in-law Bonnie Burklund Bright of San Tan Valley, AZ; eight grandchildren: Jessica Bright Thomas (Sean) of San Tan Valley, AZ; Kimberly Bright of San Tan Valley, AZ; Travis Bright (Alison) of Bixby, OK; Kristin Velsor of Orlando, FL; Michael Velsor (Chelsea) of St. Cloud, FL; Lauren Velsor Zern (Aric) of Yulee, FL; Makaylen and Xen Bright of St. Cloud, FL; twelve great-grandchildren: Tyler, Hannah and Karina Thomas of San Tan Valley, AZ; Bode, Trey and Claire Bright of Bixby, OK; Madison, Autym and Jocelyn Lowder of Orlando, FL; Silas and Eleanor Zern of Yulee, FL and Hendrixx Sarkadi of St. Cloud, FL. Marjorie is being welcomed home by her beloved husband, Glenn Ray Bright, Sr.; eldest son Glenn Ray Bright, Jr.; parents and sister Edna Lee Bass Dierna of Miami, FL, along with many other loved ones who have gone before. What a joyous reunion. Marjorie was a direct descendant of pioneer Osceola County forefathers who helped forge this great county. Families such as the Bass’, Durham’s, Johns’, Johnson’s, Tumblin’s and Sullivan’s. Her first seven years were lived on Payne’s Prairie in Gainesville where her dad worked for Camp’s Ranch. Here she learned to ride. Later the family moved to Camp’s Ranch in Ocala. In Ocala Marjorie worked cattle with her dad instead of learning to cook and sew. She could pop a whip with the best of them. In 1953 the family moved to Osceola County. She was the only woman in the first graduating class of the Kissimmee Police Academy which graduated December 9, 1968. She worked under Sheriff Robert Buckles and Sheriff Robert Best. Over the years she was choir director, Sunday School teacher, Relief Society president and Seminary teacher in her church. She was a past vice regent of the Joshua Stevens Chapter of the D.A.R. in Osceola County, and the first director of the Osceola County Genealogical Society. Her greatest joy was each member of her family whom she will continue to love and watch over. Visitation will be Friday, July 14, 2023 from 10:00 to 10:45 a.m. at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 2821 Old Canoe Creek Road in St. Cloud where the funeral service will begin at 11:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Osceola Memory Gardens in Kissimmee.
