John F. Murphy III
June 11, 1939 - December 15, 2018
Jack was born on June 11, 1939, in Lawrence Mass, where he lived with his parents, Miriam and John Murphy II, as an only child. At age 18, he joined the Air Force. He spent a total of eight years in the Air Force, and four years in the Marine Corps as an electronics technician and airplane radio mechanic. He saw service in Viet Nam. Jack attended college during his time in service and after he was discharged. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Maine, and a Master of Science in Education from Indiana University. When he left the service, he owned three restaurants in and near Calais, ME. Jack then moved to Kissimmee FL and taught for a short time at Orlando College. He moved to St. Cloud, and went to work for USPS as a mail carrier in Deltona until he was able to transfer to St. Cloud. He delivered mail in St. Cloud until he retired on Dec. 24, 2004 after 29 years of government service. Jack was a longtime member of American Legion Post 80, and the Osceola Veterans Council. He was a Lifetime member and past quartermaster of VFW Post 3227, St. Cloud. He was also a Lifetime member and served as Chaplain of the Marine Corps League Sept. 11, Detachment #1092. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 25 years, Geri Murphy, daughter and spouse Jerri-mae F. and Jim Ross of Cape Canaveral, FL., son Jason L. Murphy of Cape Canaveral, FL., step-daughter and spouse Karen & Bud Adams of Ellaville GA., stepson and spouse, Alan & Karen Cochran of Kissimmee FL., and stepson, Robert Cochran of St. Cloud FL., seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Jack and Geri attended the Cornerstone Family Church for many years. A celebration of life service will be held on January 6, 2019, at 5:00 pm in the VFW Post 3227 Hall at 915 New York Ave., St. Cloud. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to VFW Post 3227 for VFW National Children’s Home or Cornerstone Family Church.
