Evelyn Welch Shannon passed away on April 4, 2018 in St. Cloud, Florida. She was 94. She was born on May 23, 1923 in Tamworth, New Hampshire. Daughter of the High Sheriff of Carroll County, James Welch and his wife, Gertrude, she spent her childhood on the family farm in Tamworth, N.H. She graduated from Tamworth High School in Tamworth, NH. She met the love of her life, Charlie Shannon, at a dance in Ossipee and they married on Valentine’s Day 1941. Following World War II they moved to Wolfeboro, N.H. and ran the old Shannon family farm in Pleasant Valley. In 1956 they started a taxi service in Wolfeboro and eventually opened Shannon’s Grocery in Wolfeboro Falls in 1960. In 1964 Evelyn opened a beauty salon, Beauty Time, in her home. Eventually, she moved the salon to Glendon Street. She was an active member of the community in Eastern Star, the Rebekahs, and a member of All Saints Episcopal Church in Wolfeboro. Following the passing of her husband in 1990, she retired to Florida. She is preceded in death by her husband, parents, four brothers, and three sisters. She is survived by her son James (Susan) Shannon, Orlando, FL, her daughter, Penny Duncan, Kissimmee, FL, her son Charles Stuart (Andrea), Wolfeboro, N.H., her daughter Dori Lynn (Danny) Desrosiers, Campton, N.H. A memorial service for her Florida family and friends will be held on Monday, April 23rd at 1:00 PM. at the Episcopal Church of Saint Luke and Saint Peter in St. Cloud, FL, 2745. A memorial service and interment in Wolfeboro, NH will be scheduled in the future.
