Rose Marie Migas

Rose Marie Migas, beloved aunt, niece, cousin, and friend, passed away on May 13, 2012, in her home surrounded by her devoted family and friends, after a long and courageous fight with leukemia. Rose was born in South Bend, Indiana, on March 13, 1936. She graduated from Indiana University, Bloomington, with a major in political science and a minor in psychology. After graduation, she worked briefly back in South Bend at the Bendix Aviation Corporation. She then moved to New York where she worked in several capacities for the United Nations. Starting as a guide for the Department of Public Information, she was then promoted to the Picture Editor for the Exhibitions Service; later, she rose to Assistant Director of the Interns Program. She often recalled stories of her work at the U. N., including curtsying to Queen Elizabeth and witnessing Khrushchev pound his shoe on the podium. After leaving the United Nations, Rose continued her career at Doubleday and Company and American Heritage Publishing in several roles, including Assistant Personnel Director. Rose later worked at Grey Advertising with duties related to recruiting and hiring. For Rose, her most exciting job was working on Late Night with David Letterman in its early years. She liked to remember the famous people that she was able to meet through her work. In order to be near her mother and her aunts, Rose moved to Florida and finished her career in the field of commercial real estate in Orlando. Rose was an avid reader, a dog owner and lover, a talented cook, and a great conversationalist. She loved travel, good movies, politics, her family and her friends. She will be missed by all those she touched with her humor, care, and personality. At Rose’s request, a celebration of her life will be held at a later date. Rose was preceded in death by her parents John and Nora Migas and by her brother, Chester Migas. She is survived by her uncles Arthur Nowak of Nevada and Edward Nowak of Indiana, her nieces Pat Migas of South Bend and Kathy Chapman of Indianapolis, and her nephew John Migas of South Bend, Also surviving are many cousins and dear neighbors and friends, including her caregiver Jessica Paul, her college roommate Sharon Morrow, her Mad Hat Queen Mother JoAnne Nydegger, and all of the other Mad Hat members of South Orlando.
