Meta Francisca Evert A Life Lived with Love After nearly four months of hospitalization, including seven weeks in rehabilitation, Meta died on November 18, 2015. She was surrounded by her family including her husband of 45 years, Gerry and daughters, Georgia and Elizabeth. Meta was 89 years old. Not present were her grandsons Stewart, Travis and Reed and great grandsons Chase and Gage Maher. The entire family misses this multi-faceted wife, mother and grandmother who was a terrific homemaker, successful business owner of a delicatessen in Columbus, Georgia in the 60’s and 70’s. She was a proud naturalized American citizen. Her first husband was James E. Noland, retired from the U.S. Army and passed away in 1972. She remarried in 1970 to Gerd O. Evert, who also retired from the Army in 1983. What made Meta so special? A wonderful sense of humor that kept us all smiling and she could light up a room with her warmth, intelligence, and natural beauty. At the end of WWII, she studied Home Economics at the University of Prague and when the University closed because of the war, she made her way back home to Jaegerndorf, CSR just to see them evicted forcefully and remained in a farm labor camp with them for a year. From there they travelled to Ottobeuren, Bavaria and resettled to make this their new home. Life was difficult at first, but she found employment with the US military working as a telephone operator in nearby Augsburg. Here, she met her first husband and travelled to the USA settling in Columbus, Georgia. With her husband Gerry, she travelled to Mainz, Germany where they were stationed. She furthered her academic career at the University of Mainz in modern languages and as a guest student at Middlebury College, Vermont. While in the US, she helped support her husband as a teacher and German Department Head at the US Military Academy, West Point, NY. After Gerry’s retirement in 1983, they settled for good in St. Cloud, Florida, homesteading on 12 acres plus an additional orange grove, where they both enjoyed a rural lifestyle with the cultural benefits of Orlando and the Atlantic beaches. Gerry was the Fire Chief of the Local Narcoossee Volunteer Fire Department from 1984 until 2000.
