Martina Abiles

Martina Bravo Abiles, loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, auntie and friend, died on November 28 to be with our Lord Jesus and rejoin her husband, Ponciano (d. 8/7/2003) after a year-long battle with esophageal/gastric cancer. Martina was born January 30, 1924 in Urdaneta, Pangasinan, Philippines. She was married on July 28, 1945 to Ponciano Abiles, a Philippine Scout, who became a U.S. soldier and citizen after WWII. Together they raised 3 children, Adelaida (Addie) Ward, Bienvenido (Ben) and Jose Carlito. Martina attended Edison Technical College to learn the sewing trade. After graduation she was employed by Sportcaster Co. where she retired after 30 years on the job. Martina and Ponciano were proud to be founding members of the Bataan & Corregidor Survivor's Club, The Filipino Community Center, Pangasinan Association of the Pacific Northwest and the Filipino-American Society in Magnolia. Martina was a long-time resident of Magnolia before moving to Kissimmee, Florida in 2004. She is survived by the 3 children and their spouses Addie & Dave Ward, Ben & Regina Abiles, Jose & Elizabeth Abiles; grandchildren Kristina Rutkowski, Janina Abiles, Bienvenido Jose Abiles, Marina Cook, Tara Ward, Kevin Ward, McGlensey Abiles and Peter Abiles; great-grandchildren Dominic, Sebastian & Benjamin Rutkowski, and Jackson & Paisley Ward; sister Brigida Bravo. A long-time resident of Seattle, Washington, Martina was devout member of Fatima Catholic Church. When she moved to Kissimmee, Florida in 2005, she worshipped at St. Thomas Aquinas Church and was a member of the Council of Catholic Women. Funeral mass will be on Monday, December 13, 10:30 a.m. at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church, 3301 West Dravus Street, Seattle; internment will be at Evergreen Washelli.
