Margaret "Maggie" Marshall McGill

Beloved Mother, Grandmother, Sister, Aunt and Friend On January 9, 2023, Margaret "Maggie" Marshall McGill, was taken into the arms of Jesus Christ her Lord as she was surrounded by her family. As a believer and servant of Christ, we are comforted in the assurance that she is rejoicing with our Lord. She was predeceased by her loving husband of almost 60 years, Olin Jack McGill, by her parents Albert and Freddie Marshall and by her two brothers Albert and Robert Marshall, and two sisters Virginia Hoover and Dorothy Exum. She is survived by her three Children: Sandra Quiles (Darrin), Olin “Jack” McGill, Jr. (Kim), and Michael McGill (Debbie). She leaves an incredible legacy of love which she shared with her children as a devoted and compassionate mother. She is also survived by her five grandchildren. Alissah McGill-Oberholtzer (John), Olin “JT” McGill III, Ian McGill, Aidan McGill and Callan McGill. She enjoyed many hours loving, nurturing, and caring for them from infancy to adult. She was a trusted counselor when they needed her. She loved her Lord, her beloved husband Jack, and her children and grandchildren with a passion and grace that cannot be measured. Maggie was born in Miami Florida on August 16,1930 and raised there. However, a significant part of her childhood was spent in New Smyrna where her mother’s family originated. She graduated from Miami High School and went to Florida State University where she obtained a degree in Social Work. She attended Tulane to pursue a Masters degree until a handsome “Gator” proposed to her. Maggie and Jack married on April 9th 1955. They lived in Atlanta before moving to Bogota Colombia , where they were blessed with their first child, Sandi. After they returned to the states, they settled into life in Pittsburgh. There, they had their two sons, Jack and Mike. She kept busy raising her children and enjoying the garden club, flower arranging, and growing herbs. Then, to use her own words, she “began to feel empty”. After conversations with her sister-in-law, she realized she lacked knowledge of scripture. This encounter began a lifelong pursuit of seeking the Lord and learning all she could about Him and studying His Word.. Building on this foundation, she served our Lord faithfully for the rest of her days. She taught Bible studies with Precept Ministries for many years. This was a love she shared with her beloved sister Dot. Maggie and Jack remained in Pittsburgh until 1986, when, instead of retiring, Jack was hired by Chase Manhattan Bank, and a new adventure began in the New York/New Jersey area. Maggie made the best of all her opportunities while in New York where she studied at the New York School of Interior Design, earning a certification. She was also a warden in her church in New Jersey where she forged relationships that thrived 40 years later. When their children were getting ready to leave the nest, Maggie and Jack decided to buy a home in Saint Cloud for their eventual retirement. This is where they lived and continued to serve His church and community. She also was active in PEO, a philanthropic organization. Maggie suffered from Alzheimer’s for the last several years of her life. It is a disease that robs an individual of many things. For Maggie, this was true in many ways, but she continued to be a blessing to those around her. At the memory care facility, she was known as “Miss Maggie” and was a favorite of the staff because of her sweet spirit. Jesus continued to be reflected in her life until the day He called her home. Funeral arrangements are with Fisk Funeral Home in Saint Cloud Florida. Her calling hours will be Friday, January 20th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. The celebration of her life will be Saturday the 21st at 11:00 a.m. at Lake Nona Presbyterian church (meeting at 10123 William Carey Way, Orlando , FL 32832). Graveside services will follow at Mount Peace Cemetery. A reception will be held In her honor at her home.
