Donald Ray Smith, "Pappa", 85, of Saint Cloud, Florida, passed away on Friday, February 5, 2016. He was born on February 22, 1930 to Warren and Mary (Fields) Smith in Portsmouth, Ohio. He is survived by his loving wife, Hazel Smith of Saint Cloud; two daughters, Debbie Jane McKitrick and husband Dean and Kathy Lynn Smith from Saint Cloud; two granddaughters, Stacy Douglas and husband Brian and Jamie Douglas and husband Kevin also of Saint Cloud; a grandson, Jonathan McKitrick from West Virginia; six great-grandchildren: Justin, Jordan Ray, Quinn, Ansley, Logan and Brody; and two brothers, Bill Smith and wife Lulabell and Bob Smith and his wife Catherine. Donald is preceded in death by brothers, Warren Everett Smith, Jr., Ralph Smith; and sisters, Margarite Martin, Wilma Stitzel, and twin sister, Betty Estep. Don was a dedicated sports lover. He loved watching his grandchildren and great grandchildren play sports. He enjoyed watching a ball game on his flat screen TV with Hazel. He loved a few fury friends….Cocoa, Patches, Sasha, Ya-Ya, Sam, and Triton. Don “Pappa” was a grandpa to basically every child he met. Children were drawn in by his funny humor, quiet demeanor and outrageous love. He also had many Nieces, Nephews and Cousins who he also loved and adored. He loved working in the yard. Mowing the grass and taking care of his property was something him and Hazel always did together. (She would mow the grass with the riding mower and he would edge.) He loved the Lord very much. Every morning and evening he was on his knees and prayed. That’s one reason why our family has been so blessed. Lastly, he enjoyed eating out with Hazel. Sometimes they would sit there for hours and just talk about anything and everything. Don would like people to know that he died peacefully. Surrounded with love, his last words were “I love you!” to Hazel. They had been married for 61 years and for those 61 years, they were much in love and happy. There were not many people like “Don” or “Pappa”. A little bias, but he was defiantly someone who made in impact on everyone who had the privilege of meeting him. One of the hardest working men on the planet, his example of life was something one should strive to be. If he spoke, one listened. Mr. Smith will be buried at Mt. Peace in St. Cloud, Florida. As requested by Mr. Smith, a service or memorial will not be held. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Cornerstone Hospice Group on the 2nd floor of ORMC in Orlando, Florida.
