Bruce Miller

Bruce J. Miller, 88, died September 28, 2010 at his residence. Mr. Miller was born August 7, 1922 in Barrington, Illinois. He graduated from Barrington H.S. in 1940. He Graduated from the University of Michigan where he obtained a BS in Forestry in 1949, served 3 1/2 year WWII. as a Sergeant of the 3rd Air Force. Mr Millers career began with the U.S. National Park Service in Glacier National Park, (N.P.) as a U.S. Park Ranger, He was married to Leila Lee Frappia on November 22, 1952, in Minneapolis, MN. Subsequent positions in the NPS included: Great Smokey Mountains ,N.P, Washington D.C., Yosemite N.P, San Francisco Regional Office, Superintendency of Isle Royale N.P, Great Lakes Area Field Office, N.E Regional Office, Florida-Caribbean District Office, and the S.E. Regional office from where he retired after 30 years. He then worked for 5 years with the Florida Game & Fresh Water Fish Commission & an additional 4 years with Florida Dept. of Agriculture. Mr. Miller served for 5 years as the Director of the Carroll County Regional Planning Comm. in Ohio. In April 1989, he and his wife moved to Pleasant Hill, TN. He served a 4 year term as Commissioner on the W. Cumberland Utility District & supervised the construction of the district's new office building. He was a life-long member of the United Methodist Church & a member of the Amercan Legion since 1946. A graduate of the FBI National Academy's 60th Session, he was also active with memberships in NARFE, Kiwanis, Rotary, Toastmasters, and the Society of Les Voyageurs of the University of Michigan. He was a charter & life member of the N.R.A. He is survived by his wife of 59 years Leila Lee Miller of St. Cloud, FL; Sons Calvin J. Miller of Crossville, TN, Russell A. Miller of Yellowstone N.P., & Lawrence R. Miller of Crawfordville, FL; Daughters, Mrs. James (Anita) Lemmon of St. Cloud, FL & Mrs. Dan (Laura) Wheatcraft of Crawfordville, FL. Also survived by 21 grandchildren & 16 great grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2010 at 2PM at the First United Methodist Church, Saint Cloud, FL with Rev.
